Introduction

I always think of this component as representing a shift in the Design Thinking process. Whereas the first two components were focused on understanding the problem, Ideation is the beginning of your response to it! For this component, you get to be as creative as possible while imagining all the different potential solutions to the problem. One belief I have about Design Thinking that particularly impacts Ideation, I think, is that there are often MANY RESPONSES to a problem, so don’t ever feel pressure to come up with the “right” one. With Ideation, have fun, be wonky, strive for creativity, and arrive at innovation!

Design Thinking Outcome

Students will engage Ideation by selecting and using an annotation technique and then sharing their experience with the class.

EdTech Outcome

Students will use an annotation tool to share their thoughts, ideas, and responses to one or more web-based articles about Ideation along as well as digital sticky note boards to document and share their experience with Ideation.
